Doctor As Teacher

Docere, the Latin for Doctor as Teacher is the fifth Naturopathic Principle that we are discussing. This concept is an important one in my practice. I view my role as your doctor from the perspective of being your teacher. I help guide you on your journey towards health helping you learn the best way to take care of your body. I want to empower you to be the keeper of your body. This gives you control of your health which feels good!

First Do No Harm

Primum non nocere, or First Do No Harm, is associated with the Hippocratic Oath. It is also one of the Six Naturopathic Principles. These principles are the common thread between all naturopathic doctors. They guide us in our treatment methods to ensure the highest quality of care for the patient. In the case of doing no harm it is one of the most important principles.

Treat the Whole Person

What do you think of when I say that I treat the whole person. Perhaps you think that I also am a life coach, do structural alignments and spiritual counseling. While I may do these things indirectly they are not my focus. However, they are important aspects on your journey to health. I am sure that you realize the benefit of having all areas of your life in balance and the positive effects that it can have on your health.

Prevention

This month we are talking about prevention, one of the Six Naturopathic Principles. The idea of prevention is one that I teach my patients throughout their treatment process. We focus on important ideas such as eating whole organic foods, getting enough rest and exercising. These are important concepts to incorporate into your daily routine as they will help support your body's immune system and improve the many functions therefore helping to prevent the progression of disease.

Back to Nature

This month starts off the series on the Six Naturopathic Principles. We will begin with The Healing Power of Nature. When I speak of the healing power of nature I typically talk about the herbs, foods, vitamins and minerals that nature provides for us. All of these are the fruits of nature and have been shown to help the body heal. Another aspect to the Healing Power of Nature has recently been brought to my attention and that is the benefit of being in nature.
